Daman And Diu: The Lands Of Solitude

diu_daman The small and scenic lands of Daman and Diu makes for a fun filled holiday spot with their glorious immix of sand, sunshine and the sea. They are situated on the southerly tip of Saurashtra, Gujarat. Daman and Diu is a union territory of India.

Diu and Daman are calm and less commercialized territories with loads of beach on the Western coast. These beaches offer multitude of exciting and joy filled activities to the visitors. You can just walk and lie on a beach chair for whole day doing nothing as well as enjoy horde of water sports. The beauty is all the more bewildering during the rainy season when the reinvigorated waves from the Arabian sea, mildly swayed by the winds smashes on the rocks around the seashore.

For more than four hundred and fifty years, these territories were under Portuguese rule. It was only in 1974 that Daman and Diu were recognized by the Portuguese as the Indian annexures. Hence, you will get to experience a mix of the Portuguese and Indian culture, heritage and architecture in both Daman and Diu.

Daman:
Fort of Moti Daman: A stupendous polygon structure with ten citadels and two entrances protected by fosse on one side and the sea on the other. This is the classic example of Portuguese architecture.
Fort of Nani Daman: this fort is blatant with a giant gate entrance fronting the river with a prominent sculpture of St. Jerome and Our Lady of the Sea Church.
Devka Beach: Devka beach is characterized with a vast shoreline perfect for a relaxed day.
Jampore beach: Another beautiful beach in Daman.
Other places to see in Daman are Mirasol Water Park, the Kadaiya Lake and the Jetty Garden.

Diu:
Nagao: it is a semi circle beach near Bucharwada village. It is a peaceful beach to spend an evening with family and friends.
Ghoghla Beach: For some adrenaline rush try water sports such as parasailing, boat sailing and water scooter rides on this beach. After the thrill take a brief nap under the tall palm trees to refresh your senses.
Jallandhar Beach: Jallandhar beach got its name from a mythological devil who was killed by Hindu lord Krishna. A modest shrine of Jallandhar is present on this beach. The soft sand beach is another place to spend a relaxing and fun filled day.
Ganeshwar cave temple: this unique cave temple is situated on Fudam village in Diu. These caves have 5 Shivlings in the middle of the rocks on the seacoast that are recurrently washed by the invigorating waves.
Fort of Diu: is surrounded by sea from three sides and offers elating views. While here, you must visit the world’s first Seashell Museum; it houses an astounding collection of about three thousand sea shells.
Fortress of Panikotha: Take a boatride to this is a splendid fort, a lighthouse and a tiny chapel located right in the center of sea.

To reach Daman and Diu by Air: The closest international as well as domestic airport is in Mumbai and is about 193 kilometers away

To reach Daman and Diu by train: The closest railway terminal is Vapi it is about twelve kilometers away.

To reach Daman and Diu by Road: National Highway 8 links Daman by road. It is at a distance of 367 kilometers from Ahmedabad, 193 kilometers from Mumbai and 300 kilometers from Baroda
