10 Commandments Of Healthy Travel

Who doesn’t want a safe and stress free holiday. Worst nightmare for any traveler is the fear of falling sick. Just follow these ten pointers and you will definitely enjoy a healthy holiday.

In today’s time, when traveling has become so hectic, you are subject to several kinds of travel tension that might make you less immune to falling sick. Long waiting hours, unhealthy food, change in time zone and climate, crowded destinations can make you susceptible to tiredness, nausea, upset stomach or sleep disorder.

Drink Consciously: Do not drink alcohol before you enjoy physical activities, sports or car driving. Not safe at all.

Stay away from polluted water bodies: Try not to bathe in unidentified spots or polluted water. Human sewage and animal fecal matter have made some rivers or ponds a big no-no for even a dip. After all you don’t want to end up with skin infections.

Swimming precautions: Do not ever go swimming alone or after having alcohol, drugs or any other kind of sedatives. Do not dive headlong into an unknown water body. When you go swimming check with the lifeguard for jellyfish, sea snakes or any venomous fish.

Careful of what you eat: contaminated foods are the most common reason for diarrheal problems. Do not buy food from roadside vendors. For mid meal snacks buy sealed snacks from departmental stores.

Water Conscious: Make sure you use only bottled water while traveling, if possible use boiled water as much as possible. Carry oral rehydration salts or glucose powder to avoid dehydration during your holiday.

Save yourself from mosquitoes: Use insect repellent on uncovered skin to reduce the chances of being stung or bitten by insects and mosquitoes that carry diseases like malaria or dengue. During twilight hours wear long sleeved clothes, because the disease carrying mosquitoes are most active during those hours.

Shield yourself from sun: Carry a sunscreen at all times. You do not want to end up with terrible sun burn and ruin your wonderful holiday. If in case you do end up with sun burn then immediately rub ice over your skin to provide immediate relief.

Medicines and Doctors: you should carry basic medication with yourself at all times like medicines for headache, mild fever, pain killers, upset stomach, acidity and so on. In case you do need to buy medicines make sure you buy them only from authorized chemists. People with chronic diseases such as thyroid, diabetes, and blood pressure or heart problems should carry all the necessary medications. Before leaving for your destination ask your travel agent or a known associate for contact details of an experienced doctor. In case you do fall sick you do not want to end up with a quack in an unknown destination.

Vaccinations: for people traveling to places specified as yellow fever endemic areas such as Africa, Yellow Fever Vaccine is recommended.

Things To Carry: several things should always be in your bag at all times such as hand sanitizer and disinfectant. Also carry a card with your details such as your blood group, emergency number where your friend or relative could be called in case of emergency, any drug sensitivity, and information about any chronic disease you are suffering from.

These are very simple tips but if you keep them in mind you will definitely enjoy a healthy and stress free holiday.
